String Sessions for Youth

  • First Presbyterian Church - Cooperstown, NY 25 Church Street Cooperstown, NY, 13326 United States (map)

The First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown will be hosting String Sessions for Youth, gatherings intended for students who play violin, viola, cello and bass.  These will take place on Wed. afternoons from 3- 6 p.m. in the chapel, located at Elm and Pioneer Streets, beginning April 14, 2021.   Violinist Julie Signitzer will play and manage this opportunity to make music together for fun in a safe informal setting.  Julie is a professional musician who has played with many regional and national touring orchestras.  She is founder of the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble.  Julie will be joined by an adult assistant at each String Sessions for Youth gathering.  The number of students will be limited according to CDC guidelines.

There will be music reading, chamber music based on available players (duos, trios, quartets, quintettes), master classes where students can perform solo pieces for their peers and a general exploration of musical styles for stringed instruments including improvisation.  In addition, the church is offering performance possibilities during their Sunday morning service.

This is not intended to replace private lessons or participation in the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble.  Rather it is a local opportunity to make music while expanding our comprehension of possibilities.  It is a music club for string players offered free of charge.

In order to accommodate planning needs, participants must contact Julie Signitzer prior to attending.  Please email her at signitzerj@gmail.com by Monday morning each week with your name, age, instrument that you play and number of years you have played.  For questions Julie can be reached at 607-435-3857.
